What is OpenTelemetry used for?

OpenTelemetry is used to instrument software once, collect operational signals consistently, and send that data to a backend that helps teams debug and operate production systems.

Debugging production issues

Developers use OpenTelemetry to connect symptoms to evidence. A slow request can be traced across services, related logs can be searched by trace ID, and metrics can show whether the issue is isolated or systemic.

Reliability and alerting

Teams use OpenTelemetry metrics and traces to define alerts for latency, errors, saturation, and availability. The important part is consistency: the same service and environment names should appear in every signal.

Telemetry pipelines

The OpenTelemetry Collector gives teams a configurable pipeline. It can receive telemetry from applications, collect host data, add attributes, filter noise, batch data, and export to Telemtra.

Avoiding vendor-specific code

OpenTelemetry is useful when a team wants observability without committing application code to one vendor SDK. You still need a backend, but your instrumentation remains portable.

Where Telemtra helps

Telemtra is the backend side of that workflow: search logs, inspect traces, chart metrics, map services, create alerts, publish reports, and shape noisy log data at ingest.
